Very Interesting Vacancy at Center for Global Development

I've never done this before, but the Center for Global Development (CGD) is advertising a great job. They are looking for a Program Coordinator. I love the work that CGD does - I think they are one of the clearest, sanest voices out there on global development and health, and I have heard that it's a great place to work. Here's the vacancy:

Job Opportunity: Program Coordinator, Global Health Policy Team

The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC, seeks a Program Coordinator to work on its Global Health Policy Team. The Global Health Policy team provides solid economic and policy analysis on priority global health topics; and through its working groups, it brings together diverse experts and stakeholders to address major finance and policy constraints in global health and social development programs. The primary areas within the work program can be viewed at http://www.cgdev.org/section/topics/global_health. Specifically, the program includes a strong focus on issues pertaining to the global market for drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and other global health products.

The Program Coordinator supports the CGD Global Health Policy team senior staff in preparing health policy documents and products, providing coordination and technical input to working groups and other substantial projects, prepares blogs and maintains substantive aspects of the Global Health website, and helps promote the output of the group.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the conceptualization and design of CGD health policy and finance working groups by conducting background research, synthesizing ideas, and engaging in discussions with stakeholders
  • Manages and coordinates work plans for multiple on-going projects, including interacting with consultants, managing stakeholder communications, and maintaining project extranet site.
  • Organizes and attends meetings/conferences; conducts outreach with key stakeholders in policy, advocacy and research communities.
  • Track and manage critical external relationships, including informing partners of team objectives and progress
  • Conducts basic analysis of data and policy indicators and prepares literature reviews for on-going research projects and programs.
  • Tracks policy developments in relevant areas.
  • Drafts and edits reports, presentations, and other communication products.
  • Provides leadership in managing the Global Health blog and e-updates/newsletters at CGD.
  • Provides content for web presence of global health portfolio at CGD.
  • Provides other research, writing and editing support for various reports, documents and web content related to global health policy projects.
  • Undertakes and/or oversees related administrative tasks.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Working Relationships:

Internal: Incumbent works closely with the rest of the Global Health Policy team, including the Vice President for Programs, Deputy Director for Global Health, other Program Coordinators, and the Administrative Assistant, as well as other health-related research staff.

External: Incumbent manages project consultants, interacts frequently with working group members and other high-level stakeholders and policy-makers.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of developing country contexts and international development assistance for health
  • Familiarity with current issues in development economics, foreign policy and related topics
  • Familiarity with data sources relevant to economic development and global health research
  • Competence in quantitative and qualitative research
  • Undergraduate degree in economics, public health or related field; advanced degree preferred but not required
  • 2-3 years professional experience in the field of global health
  • Outstanding English-language communications and writing skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team with efficiency and diplomacy
  • Initiative on new projects and ability to prioritize based on minimal direction and multiple competing priorities
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to maintain records with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, and comfort with basic information technology. Desktop publishing and statistical skills a plus.

    Anyone who is interested in this job should definitely check out last week's interview with a health policy analyst, which is very applicable to this organization and position.
